Hair Loss is a Growing Problem

Hair loss is a condition that happens to both women and men of every age.  Numbers of patients affected by it are growing.  By age 35, two-thirds of American men will have some degree of appreciable hair loss and by age 50 approximately 85% of men have significantly thinning hair. About 25% of men who suffer from male pattern baldness begin the painful process before they reach 21.  And while Male pattern baldness does not indicate a medical disorder, it may affect self-esteem or cause anxiety.

Baldness Goes Beyond Cosmetics

It can be debilitating, paralyzing.  Baldness can make the most confident, doubtful.  Approximately 50 million men and about 30 million women in the US alone suffer from male/female pattern baldness or thinning hair (AAD) and are looking for a hair loss solution to help gain their confidence back.  Fortunately, today we have options and baldness is no longer an uncontested sentence.

Frequent Questions

Before the Procedure

What is Neograft?

NeoGraft ™ is the name of an automated portable device that is approved by the FDA and used to perform hair transplants. In the past, transplants were only done by removing a portion of the scalp with hair whose shape was rectangular and elongated. Currently, the Neograft alternative is in demand since it is minimally invasive. Neograft is a new technology that manages to extract each strand of hair without having to remove the scalp. This procedure is known as FUE (Folicular Unit Extraction).

What is a hair transplant FUE?

FUE is the name of the procedure that means extraction of follicular unit. Neograft is the automated method. Its accuracy to grab each hair and how fast it works is much more efficient than the manual removal methods that were used before. The donor hair is removed without scalpel since there are no incisions or skin removal therefore this form of transplantation leaves no linear scar.

Who is a candidate for this procedure?

A patient can know if he is a candidate if he is experiencing moderate hair loss by having areas where his scalp can already be seen. These should have enough hair on the back of the head since that is the donor part from where the follicles are extracted. Another type of candidate can be one that has a scar on the head, eyebrows or beard and where no hair came back and want to cover it.

Neograft is for men and women?

It is ideal for anyone who has hair loss and / or shows some baldness. Baldness in the hair is the number one reason to decide to have a transplant, but there are others that are quite popular and it is the population of the eyebrows of hair again. The ladies take their eyebrows according to the fashion dictates, we see many who have shown very thin eyebrows and then when they wanted to have wide they find the situation that no longer hairs as before.

How will I know if my results will be what I expect?

It is very important that the patient communicates to the doctor their expectations and that they understand that they must be reasonable aesthetically and according to the amount they accept to be transplanted. Dr. Eric Adler evaluates the amount you will need to cover baldness. If the doctor recommends a quantity of follicles and the patient prefers to do less, he should expect that his alopecic area does not achieve the density that he would achieve with the amount that the expert proposes.

What do I have to do to request an evaluation?

You can call our Hair Restoration by Adler clinic and request an evaluation at 787-751-3361 or send your request in our area to contact us. You can also write to info@adlermd.com and send a front photo, another front where you are sitting and lower your head to show the crown of your head and 2 more photos of each of your profiles.

It will be a real pleasure to assist you to clarify all the doubts you have.

During

How many follicles are extracted?

We begin with evaluating the patient. This evaluation can be personally with Dr. Adler in your clinic as well as you can send a frontal photo, another one of the left profile and another one of the right profile and that you send the photos with your name to info@adlermd.com Dr. Adler will see your areas of hair loss and will indicate the amount of follicles recommended.

What is the benefit of Neograft over the traditional "Strip" operation?

With Neograft no points are taken at the end of the procedure because all we do is extract the hair. In their recovery patients heal quickly, they feel more comfortable than with the operation done with a scalpel. Post procedure restrictions are minor and you can soon return to routine tasks. Once the patient is healthy, she can show a clipping attached without worrying about explanations of a long horizontal scar. It has been seen that athletes and celebrities prefer Neograft as they can soon return to their professional responsibilities. One of the most expected benefits is to show off a natural hair line and this is achieved when we do it with expert hands.

Does the transplant hurt?

The word pain is not what describes what our patients have shared with us. We have had patients who have had a recovery where they feel minimal discomfort as others more sensitive who have expressed discomfort and it is recommended to take acetaminophen. If the patient does this procedure on a Friday and on Monday feels better and usually many are already working Monday.

After the Procedure

How long are the results seen?

The results will be seen around 3 to 4 months. At first the grafted follicle falls out as it is the normal process for healthy and natural new growth.

How long is that transplanted hair?

The transplanted hair does not stop its growth so it will continue to grow forever. Dr. Adler will discuss, during his consultation, about the maintenance, the care of the rest of the hair and if necessary the use of vitamins or products to strengthen the strands.
